4 5/8 Inch Pickleball Grip Size: Who It Fits
A 4 5/8 inch grip fits a hand that measures about 4.56 to 4.69 inches from the middle palm crease to the ring finger tip. Few listings state this grip size, so most players reach it with an overgrip on a smaller grip.

How do you know a 4 5/8 inch grip is right?
Measure with the ruler method: open your hitting hand, lay a ruler on the middle crease of the palm and read the distance to the tip of the ring finger. A reading between 4.56 and 4.69 inches points to 4 5/8 inches. The grip size calculator does the rounding and the between-sizes rule for you.
| Setup | Approx. circumference |
|---|---|
| 4 5/8 in base grip | 4.625 in |
| + 1 overgrip | 4.688 in |
| + 2 overgrips | 4.750 in |
| Thicker replacement grip + 1 overgrip | 4.750 in |
Most paddle listings do not state grip circumference at all, and 4 1/4 inch is by far the most common. If you are between 4 5/8 and 4 3/4 inch, choose 4 5/8 and add an overgrip.

Who should use a 4 5/8 inch pickleball grip?
A 4 5/8 inch grip fits players whose ruler measurement, from the middle crease of the palm to the tip of the ring finger, is roughly 4.56 to 4.69 inches. By the rougher height method it usually suits players 6 ft and over, large hands. Measure rather than guess: hand size varies more than height does.
Can I make a 4 1/2 inch grip into a 4 5/8 inch grip?
Yes. One overgrip adds about 1/16 inch of circumference, so two overgrips, or a thicker replacement grip with one overgrip, take a 4 1/2 inch grip to about 4 5/8 inches. Building up is easy; a grip cannot be made meaningfully smaller.
What happens if my pickleball grip is too small or too big?
A grip that is too small makes you squeeze harder to stop the paddle twisting, which tires the forearm and is a common contributor to elbow strain. A grip that is too big limits wrist action, making spin and quick hand battles harder. Between sizes, choose the smaller grip and build it up with an overgrip.
